Gem Placement: WoC does a much better job than 3 at the placement of colored gems and the amount of backtracking necessary. It’s pretty stellar, and the composers really knocked it out of the park taking the series music in a new yet still fitting (and really vibey) direction. That’s completely subjective, I know, but regardless it’s hard to find anyone who doesn’t like this games ost. Music: I know this is an absolutely nuclear take, but I like the soundtrack of this game better than the original trilogy’s sound track.

WoC does a really good job at keeping me engaged since every level is something brand new, even if it’s a theme we’ve seen done already (like snow). Getting to the last warp room of Crash 3 and realizing every level is just something we’ve already seen before is particularly defeating and kind of kills my enthusiasm to play on replays. One of my biggest peeves with the original games is how much the levels are rehashed with nothing really changed other than a different layout and maybe a new enemy. Variety: WoC doesn’t get much praise for this, but making every level unique with its own music, assets, and gameplay already just improves the series so much from the trilogy. I kinda wanted to take a minute here and explain why Wrath of Cortex is a perfectly fine and well made game, even if it doesn’t push the PS2 in the same way the originals pushed the PS1.įirst, I wanna go over some things I think this game does better than the original trilogy.

But people focus way too hard on a lot of the nitpicks it does worse, and just brush over completely anything it does better than the original games.

Are there things it does worse than the original trilogy? Of course. This isn’t a new opinion for as long as I’ve been active online people have been treating this game like it’s the Sonic 06 of the Crash franchise, when in reality it’s an actually good game. Since the announcement of Crash 4, a lot of people have come out of the woodworks online to talk about Wrath of Cortex, aka the “original crash 4” and how it’s such a horrible game.
